The people needed in a lab are not the same people needed at a customer site
Humanoid hiring is often associated with AI, robotics and controls engineering. But once robots move into factories and warehouses, a second layer appears: Deployment Engineers, Field Service Technicians, Fleet Coordinators, Site Leads and Robot Operators.
Building the robot and keeping it working in a customer environment are different jobs.
Figure makes commercialization visible as an organization
Figure currently has a separate Commercial Operations group with deployment, field service, fleet, operator, site leadership and logistics roles. Together they describe the operating system behind commercialization.
Its Deployment Engineers test and debug at customer sites; Field Service Technicians maintain the fleet; Site Leads manage deployment and daily production operations; Fleet Coordinators decide where robots should be allocated.
A deployed robot creates physical operations software does not need
Software can be copied. Robots must be shipped, stored, charged, repaired and sometimes returned. As fleets grow, uptime, spare parts, preventive maintenance and issue escalation become part of the product experience.
That is why commercialization creates jobs around service and logistics, not only AI model development.
ANYbotics and Telexistence show the same pattern
ANYbotics deploys technicians who install and configure ANYmal robots, train operators and expand inspection missions at customer sites.
In Japan, Telexistence hires Field Service & Deployment Mechanics for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting and repeatable maintenance workflows. Automotive and industrial-automation mechanic experience is listed as useful background.
What this means for careers
Physical AI careers can also draw on commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, industrial automation, quality, logistics, field service and customer implementation.
These postings do not prove a market-wide growth rate. The stronger signal is structural: companies putting robots into real workflows need an operating layer between engineering and the customer. Future Hiring Watch editions should track regional service coverage, shifts, fleet logistics and spare-parts networks alongside research hiring.
BANSEOG VIEW
Commercialization may become visible in who keeps robots alive at customer sites before another lab demo
Deployment, field service and fleet operations become part of product performance once robots are tied to customer output.
Future Physical AI Hiring Watch editions will track service coverage, shifts, fleet logistics and spare-parts networks alongside research hiring.

This article compares public job postings available on Aug. 27, 2026. They do not establish a market-wide growth rate. Same company does not mean same hiring unit; a public JD is not the full requirement; not found does not mean absent. No private Banseog evidence is used.
