The role protects equipment uptime, yet the target candidate is entry-level
Sysmex Korea opened recruitment on Sept. 1, 2026 for entry-level Field Service Engineers in Seoul and Gwangju. The company describes the role as installing, inspecting and repairing its equipment, supporting applications, and providing technical information and training to diagnostic-laboratory customers while maintaining equipment uptime and customer satisfaction.
A role that handles equipment failures in front of customers might appear to demand several years on the same product. Yet the posting targets university graduates and even allows applicants with up to six months of IVD or general medical-device field-service experience. The responsibility is substantial, but the prior-experience gate is relatively broad.
What does the employer expect candidates to already have, and what can it teach?
The posting still requires a foundation: a bachelor’s degree in biomedical, mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering, enough English or Japanese to understand and execute foreign-language manuals, a driver’s license and basic office-tool skills.
Those requirements are different from years of experience on Sysmex equipment. They point to engineering fundamentals, the ability to follow technical documentation and the practical conditions needed to work at customer sites. Product-specific knowledge may be incomplete, while the capabilities needed to learn and apply it are screened before hiring.
In 2026, a three-week education and assessment gate comes before final hiring
The current process does not move directly from interview to permanent employment. Candidates join an official trainee curriculum from Oct. 14 to Oct. 30, after which Sysmex evaluates job fit and organizational adaptability. Only successful participants receive final permanent offers.
This is more than onboarding. It gives the employer an additional observation period before the final hiring decision: how quickly a candidate absorbs technical material and how well the person fits the actual role and organization. Training itself becomes part of selection and validation.
The 2025 entry-level FSE posting used a different gate: three months after hiring
A November 2025 posting described a similar entry-level FSE role and the same allowance for up to six months of prior field-service experience, but the assessment happened after permanent entry. A three-month probation evaluated cultural adaptation, basic practical training, job performance and growth potential.
Sysmex also used a three-week conversion internship in late 2024, so the evidence does not support a claim that the company has moved permanently in one direction. The more useful observation is that the same employer has used both a short pre-hire education-and-assessment gate and a longer post-hire probation for the same broad job family.
For a search firm, same-equipment experience and transferable capability should be separated
The easiest way to write an equipment-engineer requirement is to copy the background of an existing top performer: same industry, same product, same equipment, same customer base and several years of experience. The specification becomes simple, but the candidate pool can shrink quickly.
Sysmex’s entry-level pathway shows that not every piece of knowledge must be complete before entry. Engineering fundamentals, troubleshooting thinking, manual comprehension, customer-facing ability and mobility can transfer from prior experience, while specific equipment models and internal processes can be taught. Separating the two can produce a different search boundary.
The better first question may be not ‘how many years?’ but ‘what can’t we teach?’
This does not mean every FSE role should become entry-level or that same-industry experience is unimportant. Complex failure recovery, regulatory and quality demands, or immediate field deployment can make direct experience decisive. These postings also do not reveal whether entry-level or experienced hires ultimately perform better.
But before making ‘years on the same equipment’ a hard requirement, an employer can ask a more useful question: what must exist on day one, and what can be built through three weeks or three months of training and validation? In scarce-talent searches, that distinction can widen the market without lowering the bar.

Sysmex Korea keeps an entry-level path open for an FSE role tied to equipment uptime and customer service, while screening for engineering foundations, manual comprehension and field-readiness conditions and adding a separate education-and-assessment gate.
When hiring equipment engineers, companies can search a broader market by distinguishing transferable capabilities that are immediately necessary from product-specific knowledge that can be learned after entry, rather than making every same-equipment experience a mandatory filter.
